Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen has known the legendary painter since 1984 and describes him as her “most important companion at a young age.” In this film she reviews her relationship with Girke – from meeting them in the 1980s to the last, posthumous exhibition in 2005 – and arranges his work in terms of art history. As if casually, she draws a concise picture of art history after 1945 and locates Raimund Girke in it.

Raimund Girke (1930—2002) is a great painter who is often called the Painter of White. His pictures are pure paintings. Oil paint was his preferred material, which he applied to the front of the canvas with sweeping brushstrokes in an always recognizable style – like his handwriting. In the new exhibition Raimund Girke – the Painter of White – meets Daniel Buren – the French Master of Minimal Art.

Dr. Dorothea initiiert über die van der Koelen Stiftung für Kunst und Wissenschaft ein neues Projekt. Unter dem Titel »Experimente IV · 4 + 8« werden vier studentische Künstler(innen) und acht ebensolche Kunsthistoriker(innen) ein eigenes Ausstellungsprojekt in der Cadoro – Zentrum für Kunst und Wissenschaft in Mainz auf die Beine stellen. Vom kuratorischen Konzept über die Pressearbeit bis zum Aufbau stemmen sie alle Herausforderungen. Das Ergebnis wird ab dem 15.08.2021 im 1. OG der Cadoro zu sehen sein.

Die van der Koelen Stiftung für Kunst und Wissenschaft hat zusammen mit dem Rabanus-Maurus-Gymnasium Mainz ein vielversprechendes Projekt ins Leben gerufen. Für »Schüler in der Kunstwelt« wurden ausgewählte Gymnasiasten in die Cadoro – Zentrum für Kunst und Wissenschaft eingeladen um sich mit Kunst und Künstlern vertraut zu machen und im Anschluss eine eigene Ausstellung zu konzipieren. Die fertige Schau sowie zehn Video- bzw. Podcastbeiträge zur Annäherung an die künstlerischen Positionen durch die Schüler zeigt dieses Video.
