Art Karlsruhe – Planning of the exhibition booth

After an intense exhibition year in 2022, which ended with the poetically beautiful and at the same time heavyweight exhibition Bipolar - Black and White in Dialogue, the Mainz-based gallerist, publisher and art historian Dr Dorothea van der Koelen will be presenting established top artists of the international avant-garde, who are also celebrating round birthdays this year, to mark the 20th anniversary of the fair at ART KARLSRUHE 2023.

One-Man-Shows

Gallery Dr Dorothea van der Koelen shows works by the world-famous French stripe artist and multiple Biennale and Documenta participant Daniel Buren (*1938), who was awarded the ‘Praemium Imperiale’ in 2007. Characteristic is the 8.7 cm wide white stripe, always running vertically, which Buren installs on architectures or "in-situ". On the occasion of the 85th birthday, Dr. phil. Dorothea van der Koelen presents works from the important series Encore des Carées.

More than 4 decades ago, the first Completions in the oeuvre of the Darmstadt artist Vera Röhm (*1943) were created, which have since been published in an extensive catalog raisonné by Chorus Publishing. Not only wood and Plexiglas, but also steel and Plexiglas enter into a symbiotic relationship in her work and become Binomials. On the occasion of the 80th birthday, CADORO in Mainz is currently presenting an extensive solo exhibition on the ground floor and 1st floor.

The point serves the constructive-concrete artist Reinhard Roy (*1948) as a design tool for the representation of spatial effects. His sculptural works, which have been presented in numerous international exhibitions, show three-dimensionally extended geometric forms that bring imaginary space into dialogue with real space. The effect on the viewer is amazingly different depending on the lighting conditions and the angle of view. On the occasion of her 75th birthday, Dr. phil. Dorothea van der Koelen presents the colorful and important series Arabic Line 2 - Line Dorothea.

The collaboration of former Uecker pupil Mario Reis (*1953), dates back to 1985 when Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen presented the first Nature Watercolors in her Bretzenheim gallery, cotton cloths placed in flowing waters depicting the essence of water. On the occasion of his 70th birthday, Dr. phil. Dorothea van der Koelen presents, in addition to Oxidations, the important 50-part series Nature Watercolours USA.

The winner of the Bonn competition Art Students Exhibit, Sebastian Dannenberg, who presented his second solo exhibition at the Cadoro last summer, locates painting in space. As a minimalist who paints, he occupies a special position among artists who work experimentally. His works and work titles, such as Remember Me often also have a humorous component.

Other artists exhibited

Lore Bert, the eminent Mainz paper artist with a global exhibition reputation, shows one of her latest masterpieces in magenta, white and gray, plus recent paintings on papyrus.

Mohammed Kazem, who developed two site-specific installations for the Sustainable Pavilion at the Dubai World’s Fair, will show a number of his brightly colored Scratches.

Wulf Kirschner describes the world and its perception in his own way with his poetic steel lettering paintings.

Nam Tchun-Mo, the Korean from the monochrome movement of his country, presents a typical Beam painting in dark red, as well as a green Spring work and a black and white Stroke-Lines.

Lothar Quinte, who would have turned 100 this year, shows one of his famous window paintings from the 60s. Turi Simeti, the Italian ZERO artist who died of Covid in 2021, is showing a wonderful triptych alongside his Ovali Gialli.

Günther Uecker is represented with various embossments.
