Art Dubai

The focus of the fair is on contemporary art. It is considered the most important art fair for the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia and takes place as part of Art Week in Madinat Jumeirah – a hotel, leisure and business centre criss-crossed by waterways not far from the famous Burj Al Arab.

In 2007, Art Dubai was held for the first time – with 42 exhibitors. It enjoys great popularity and attracts more and more exhibitors and visitors every year – in 2014 already 75 exhibitors from 32 countries and 25,000 visitors.

Gallery Dr Dorothea van der Koelen – founded in 1979 in Mainz – has been taking part in Art Dubai since 2010. Its programme – concrete · conceptual · constructive – harmonises well with the artistic demands of both the international public at Art Dubai and the requirements of local Emirati collectors. In particular, the renunciation of figurative representation, the use of writing as a design element and the humanistic underpinning of the works attract Arab art connoisseurs to the gallery's stand, which also has Emirati artists in its portfolio.

We look forward to welcoming them to our Booth E 3 in Johara Hall.

This year, Dr Dorothea van der Koelen has once again come up with an innovative concept to captivate and surprise visitors to the fair. To this end, our stand offers a well-balanced mix of established greats of the international art world – such as Lore Bert, Heinz Gappmayr, Nam Tchun-Mo, Mohammed Kazem, Turi Simeti and Günther Uecker – refreshed with a touch of young and promising artists who – like Sebastian Dannenberg – attract a lot of attention and interest from art lovers all over the world with their groundbreaking concepts.
