Lore Bert In the Studio
1 February 2024Lore Bert
Lore Bert and her experienced team work for months to create large-format relief-objects from Japanese paper, which weighs only around 20g but is difficult to tear due to the long fibers of the rice paper. The artist first develops the concept and then transfers the shape and colors and occasionally gold leaf to the wooden picture carrier. Her hard-working employees then dye the white Japanese paper in the specified colors, cut it into squares measuring approximately 6 x 6 cm, fold them into small flowers and mount them individually and piece by piece on the picture surface. This creates pictorial objects in different sizes and with very different but always breathtaking effects.
Through skillful technique, Lore Bert can create the impression of depth, evoke an oriental touch through the use of ornaments or set elegant accents with the help of gold leaf. Recently, Lore Bert has fallen in love with the color turquoise, which has enriched her color palette since her travels to the Orient and the impression of the shimmering waters of the Persian Gulf. This turquoise phase is easily recognizable in the new editions that the artist has created for the year 2024, which you can find on the order sheet below.
In our video of the week, art historian and gallerist Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen takes viewers on a visit to the studio of the still highly productive Mainz-based artist. There, she is currently working flat out on a large-format pictorial object in black and white - decorated with precious 24-carat gold leaf - which will be presented at the booth of Gallery Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen at the upcoming Art Karlsruhe. In the presence of the artist, the gallerist will use this new work to explain the process of creating the world-famous pictorial objects that renowned exhibition venues around the globe have been presenting to a fascinated art public for decades.
