Nam, Tchun-Mo – Opening on 11 June

The famous Korean artist Nam Tchun-Mo shows his new exhibition Gestures in Lines in the Cadoro – Center for Art and Science. This is only the second German solo exhibition by Nam, who lives in Daegu. He is attributed to the art movement Dansaekhwa, which resembles the European ZERO movement in its mostly monochrome working method and non-figurative representation.

For the opening of this groundbreaking exhibition, which extends over two floors of the spacious exhibition building, the Consul General of the Republic of Korea came from Bonn to address an honorable greeting to the handpicked vernissage participants. In his speech, His Excellency Seungjae Huh addressed the outstanding importance of Nam Tchun-Mo in the Korean art world as well as in the international scene, which stands in contrast to the artist's relatively undiscovered status in Germany.

In addition, the head of the culture and building department of the city of Mainz, Marianne Grosse, honored the opening ceremony with her presence. In addition to the great importance of culture in the state capital, she focused on the important contribution made by gallerist Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen with her lively exhibition activities on the cultural life of Mainz.

In her opening speech, Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen herself spoke about both the long association with the artist, whom she already exhibited in 2012, and the intricacies of the creative and technical process on which the Korean artist's filigree works are based.

We recorded the ceremonial opening of the exhibition in our video of the week for all those who unfortunately could not be there. Art connoisseurs and friends of the Gallery Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen, who appreciate the house's exquisitely curated exhibitions, should not miss this introduction to the work of Nam Tchun-Mos. If we have sparked your interest in the artist, we also recommend our artist talk with Nam Tchun-Mo, which we recorded while preparing the exhibition.
