Schüler in der Kunstwelt Ein Projekt der van der Koelen Stiftung und des Rabanus-Maurus-Gymnasiums
29 April 2021The van der Koelen Foundation for Art and Science has set itself the mission of introducing the young generation to the challenges of the art world. After the successful launch project Experimente I · 4 + 8 + 2 in 2015, in which young artists, art historians and designers conceived and realized an exhibition together, in 2021 the students of the course 13bk of the Rabanus-Maurus-Gymnasium in Mainz invited to enter the present-day art world.
On the initiative of Dr. Christopher Naumann, head of the van der Koelen Foundation for Art and Science and in close cooperation with Alfonso Mannella, art educator at the Rabanus-Maurus-Gymnasium and himself an artist, the young people interested in art enjoyed the works shown in the Cadoro – Center for Art and Science up close.
They screened literature about the artists, approached their ideas and positions and where possible visited them in their studios. Through the intensive examination of the artists and the works of art presented in the Cadoro, the students were able to gain first insights into a wide range of artistic concepts and gain first-hand experience in an international art business. With all the newly acquired knowledge of the students, however, it must not be forgotten that the understanding of an individual work of art cannot be generalized. Everyone understands and interprets a work differently, depending on their own life story.
So it is fascinating to see how the students reacted to the works of art. In addition to the exhibition they realized in the bazaar area of the Cadoro, ten videos and podcasts were created in which they formulate their highly personal approaches to an artist of their choice.
An overview of this innovative project along with impressions of the exhibition structure, the curatorial idea, the realized exhibition and of course the artist videos can be found in our detailed video. Have fun watching!
