Art Cologne 2026 – Planning the exhibition booth

In a world that is difficult to define in simple terms, Art Beyond Boundaries presents itself as a polyphony – a harmony between worlds. Each artist offers their own vision and opens up a variety of perspectives for viewers that reflect the complexity of the present. It is an invitation to perceive the “other” as an enrichment rather than a threat.

In our Video of the Week, gallerist and art historian Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen presents viewers with the planned exhibition booth for the upcoming Art Cologne. We hope this video has piqued your curiosity about our booth and that we’ll have the pleasure of welcoming you in person soon in Cologne.

From the world-famous nail artist Günther Uecker, we are exhibiting — in addition to a selection of embossed prints in world format — the individual sheets from the groundbreaking portfolio Graphein, displayed across two large walls of our exhibition booth. Günther Uecker is one of the internationally renowned German artists of the second half of the 20th century, whose works are exhibited in countless museums worldwide.

By Fabrizio Plessi, the Venetian by choice and pioneer of media art—whose passing in August of this year we deeply mourned—we are presenting in Cologne an aesthetically sophisticated homage to Venice titled Gold. Plessi, who was also a professor at the Cologne Media Academy, occupies a unique position in video art, of which he is both the founder and a pioneer. He uses video as a painterly medium.

Daniel Buren (*1938), the French master of minimalist art, is famous for his “stripe principle”, which he developed in the mid-1960s. It is always the same motif: an 8.7 cm wide white stripe that runs vertically. It has no meaning; it is a structural principle, a formal element. We are exhibiting a unique triangular work by him in a rich red.

The theme of mirrors occupies a significant place in Christian Megert’s work. It has accompanied the Swiss sculptor and object artist for almost his entire artistic career. At our booth, we are showcasing a series of his Mirror Objects that are archetypal of this body of work.

Among the highlights of this year’s presentation are also the works of Mohammed Kazem. The prominent artist from Dubai has been featured at numerous international biennials since his debut as the UAE’s representative at the 2013 Venice Biennale. We are showcasing one of his coveted Directions works, with which he first gained recognition in the international art world.

The world-renowned paper artist Lore Bert, who was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon this year, presents, among other works, a large-format pictorial object titled Sonne, which was also prominently featured in her 2019 Biennale presentation in Venice.

Works by Turi Simeti, the prominent representative and grand master of the Italian Zero movement who passed away in 2021, will also be on display at the gallery’s booth. The focus here is on more recent works from 2017, such as the piece 8 ovali blu.

The Korean painter Nam Tchun-Mo, who divides his time between Cologne and his hometown of Daegu, is a leading representative of the Dansaekhwa movement, which ushered in a new era of abstract art in South Korea beginning in the 1970s. At the booth, we are presenting a selection of his popular Beam works, which captivate audiences with their relief-like texture and intense colors and are highly sought after by collectors.
