Last weekend, we held the grand opening of the highly anticipated exhibition by artist Sheikh Rashid Al Khalifa – a member of the Bahraini royal family – titled Shades of White at Cadoro – Center for Art and Science in Mainz-Hechtsheim.
Due to current political developments in the Middle East, the artist himself was unfortunately unable to attend the opening as planned. Nevertheless, the art lovers who had traveled to the event were full of anticipation and listened intently to the opening speech by gallerist and art historian Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen, who, in her usual manner, skillfully placed Al Khalifa’s artistic stance within the context of contemporary history and the gallery’s portfolio.
We hope to make up for the celebration with Rashid Al Khalifa in person at a later date, if the political situation allows.
For everyone who could not attend the opening in person, we have recorded Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen’s opening speech and are presenting it to you in our Video of the Week. We hope you enjoy watching it.
Finally, we have compiled a small selection of Rashid Al Khalifa’s works for you, which can also be viewed in the exhibition through June 24, 2026.
