Mario Reis Michelbach project
9 April 2026Mario Reis
As part of our Advent events at Cadoro – Center for Art and Science in Mainz-Hechtsheim, we had the pleasure of welcoming Mario Reis, a master student of Günther Uecker renowned for his nature watercolors, to an artist talk over coffee and Christmas cookies.
During this artist talk, the eloquent Gerolstein native spoke about a new project he carried out throughout 2025 in Michelbach, located near his home.
There, he created a new series of his well-known nature watercolors. To this end, he installed the canvases – most recently against a wintry backdrop – in the eponymous river in the Vulkaneifel, where the elemental force of the water, through sedimentation and in accordance with the seasons, created unique structures on the canvas.
At Art Karlsruhe in February, we already presented selected works from the series to the eager art-loving public. Soon, at our Venetian branch, La Galleria, we will open an exhibition featuring an international lineup titled Art Beyond Boundaries, running parallel to this year’s Venice Biennale; due to the high level of interest, selected nature watercolors by Mario Reis will also be presented there.
To get you in the mood, our Video of the Week features an artist talk with Mario Reis about his Michelbach project. We hope you enjoy watching it.
