Lore Bert
25 June 2026Lore Bert bei Ewald Schrade
For Lore Bert – who will celebrate her 90th birthday on July 2, 2026 – it has been a very eventful year. First, she opened a highly acclaimed installation at the Church of San Fantin in Venice – running concurrently with the Venice Biennale – which became a major crowd-puller, captivating over 30,000 visitors in its first three weeks alone.
Then, on June 12, 2026, Minister of State for Culture Dr. Wolfram Weimer awarded her the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon for her tireless creative work and her contributions to the arts. Lore Bert accepted the award in person at the Federal Chancellery in Berlin.
Immediately afterward, the sprightly artist from Mainz traveled to the picturesque Mochental Castle in southeastern Baden-Württemberg. There, gallerist Ewald Karl Schrade opened an exhibition in honor of Lore Bert’s 90th birthday. The exhibition features a wide variety of very different pictorial objects, banners, and collages by the paper artist, showcasing the breadth of her œuvre.
The festive opening, attended by the artist herself, was a great success. Art lovers from near and far had traveled to Mochental Castle to pay tribute to Lore Bert and admire the exciting selection of works displayed in the castle’s historic rooms.
In addition to Ewald Karl Schrade himself, gallerist and art historian Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen was also in attendance to outline, in her usual eloquent manner, Lore Bert’s career – from her beginnings in the 1980s to her internationally acclaimed spatial installations and recent biennial presentations.
For all art lovers who unfortunately could not attend the opening, we recorded the event and are presenting it here as our Video of the Week. We hope you enjoy watching it. The exhibition at Mochental Castle runs through August 2, 2026.
