Art Düsseldorf 2026 Stand J 07
17 – 19 April 2026Art Düsseldorf 2026 – Standplanung
After Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen focused on hope in 2025 in connection with the Holy Year proclaimed by Pope Francis, the gallery’s presentations in 2026 will center on the theme of overcoming boundaries – Art Beyond Boundaries. “Boundaries”, the gallerist believes, “are the source of many problems.” Humanity’s greatest strength lies in the pooling of its resources: cooperation. Boundaries – whether on a map or in the mind – aim for the opposite: emphasizing differences rather than seeking common ground. That is why we focus on the unifying power of art that transcends boundaries.
The art and artists at Galerie van der Koelen are highly international, meaning they transcend territorial boundaries. The dialogue between cultures – as opposed to the dialogue of weapons – is our primary focus. With their unconventional artistic imagery, they also transcend traditional boundaries, for, as Uecker puts it: “Artistic creativity is fundamentally at odds with established norms; otherwise, it is not creative.” And thirdly, they transcend boundaries in our perceptions and thinking by reframing the world’s questions. This gives us, as viewers, the opportunity to arrive at different, new ideas – and perhaps solutions – and that gives us hope and a future.
In 2026, there are several artists’ birthdays to celebrate, which will be duly honored at the art fair in Düsseldorf: François Morellet would have turned 100 in April. To mark his 90th birthday, he presented the exhibition New Works of a Young Artist of 90 Years at Cadoro. Several works from this exhibition will be on display at our booth. We will display a selection of works by Christian Megert – to whom Cadoro is dedicating a comprehensive solo exhibition in January 2026, featuring a combination of historical and current works, to mark his 90th birthday. From Lore Bert, who will celebrate her 90th birthday in July and will present the Environment Towards the Light at the Church of San Fantin during the 2026 Venice Biennale, we will showcase neon light works in the context of the Biennale presentation, as well as recent visual concepts related to the Biennale’s theme. At our booth in Düsseldorf, in keeping with the theme Art Beyond Boundaries, we are presenting a highly international exhibition featuring a total of 9 artists from 7 countries: in addition to Germany, Italy, France, Austria, and Switzerland, the artists hail from South Korea and the United Arab Emirates.
Lore Bert, the world-renowned paper artist from Mainz, presents several of her large-format relief-objects as well as selected neon works, both in the context of the Environment Towards the Light exhibition, which is being presented in parallel with the Venice Biennale.
Heinz Gappmayr, the grand master of visual poetry, is represented at the booth with several of his striking text panels and enriches our presentation with selected embossed prints exploring the philosophy of language.
Mohammed Kazem, the world-renowned Emirati artist who seeks to capture the intangible in his work, is exhibiting several of his Waves pieces, created using his signature scratch technique.
Christian Megert, the renowned Swiss ZERO artist, is contributing several of the mirror images from his current exhibition at the Cadoro to our fair presentation.
François Morellet, who bases his art on the fundamental element of the line, is represented with a breathtaking neon work and several etchings.
Nam Tchun-Mo, a member of his country’s monochrome Dansaekhwa movement, presents an exclusive selection of his relief works in synthetic resin.
Fabrizio Plessi, the Venetian pioneer of video art, anchors the presentation at our booth with an impressive video sculpture on the theme of water.
Turi Simeti, the Italian ZERO artist, delights the eyes of all art lovers with a relief work in bold red: 3 ovali rossi.
Günther Uecker, the Düsseldorf-based ZERO artist, rounds out our booth with his elegant embossed prints featuring striking forms.
