Last week, we presented the first video from the Highlights in Autumn series in our newsletter. In it, gallerist and art historian Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen selects individual works from our current exhibitions and presents them in more detail.

This week, we present Highlights in Autumn – Episode 2. In the video of the week, Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen presents three more special masterpieces, which you can see for yourself during a visit to the gallery until December.

Plessi occupies a unique position in video art, of which he is the founder and pioneer. He uses video as a painterly medium, not to tell a story, but to enable the viewer to develop their own associations and thoughts.

The basic material of Heinz Gappmayr’s work is language. He uses letters, words, numbers, occasionally lines and basic geometric shapes, which he presents visually in order to examine the categorical possibilities of language. In doing so, language is freed from its function as a carrier of meaning and becomes the subject of the artwork itself.

A characteristic feature of Lore Bert’s artistic work over the past four decades has been her use of Far Eastern papers from Japan, Nepal, Korea and China, which often take on a spatial dimension.
