Günther Uecker Exhibition Opening: Work Examples 1986 – 2012
20 March 2025Work Examples 1986 – 2012
Our new exhibition Günther Uecker · Work Examples 1986 – 2012, which we described and announced in detail in our previous newsletter, was officially opened last weekend. Art lovers came to Mainz to attend this event at the Cadoro – as often suggested by Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen – to “view the works in the original”.
In view of Uecker’s immense productivity and the multifaceted nature of his œuvre, the exhibition cannot claim to represent his work, but thanks to decades of collaboration and many joint projects, gallerist and art historian Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen has a great treasure trove of various Uecker works in the magazines of her gallery and her private collection, which she has unearthed for this exhibition.
While last week’s video focused on the various groups of works represented in the show, Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen’s opening speech at the vernissage – which we recorded for our video this week – focuses on Uecker’s artistic roots in the ZERO movement and the diversity and development of his various groups of works – even without nails.
As always, the gallerist does not attempt to explain the work, but rather describes the creative processes and the background that led to the artistic developments. She shares her extensive knowledge and wealth of experience with the audience, so that you may see the works of art with different eyes afterwards. In any case, we cordially invite you to view the exhibition in the original and look forward to welcoming you to the Cadoro – Center for Art and Science in Mainz-Hechtsheim.
