Carolin Liebl and Nikolas Schmid-Pfähler have been working as an artist duo since 2012 and completed their art studies at the Offenbach University of Art and Design with first class honors. There they already achieved their artistic expression through their choice of media: they work with different technologies, which form the content and aesthetic material of the works. Their works are frequently sculptural, sometimes kinetic or robotic, and often installative. For example, they use electricity to set metal, plastic and wires in motion. The technology is not hidden but aesthetically staged, creating a symbiosis of functionality and the content of the technology.

The artists deal with the effects of technical developments on aesthetic and social aspects of human and non-human life. The medium – technology – is both a carrier of social conventions and an artistic material. Their objects of different dimensions, forms and energetic expression examine the potential of electrical energy, the nature of this material and the self-perception of humans in their relationship to it. For all the beauty of the materials used, the precision of their construction and the rigor of their conception, their works also reveal a great deal of humour and emotion in their kinetic movement.

For our Advent event with interactive artist talk – which will take place next Sunday, December 15, 2024 from 12–4 pm in the Cadoro – the young artists present works from the group Mini Macro Controllers and also bring one exciting new work to the Cadoro.
