The project series Experiments of the van der Koelen Foundation for Art and Science is going into another round after the success of the first exhibition, Experiments I · 4 + 8 + 2 in 2015. This year, eight art historians from Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz and four young artists from the region as well as a cultural anthropologist will have the opportunity to jointly realize an exhibition from August 14 to September 29, 2021, as well as a corresponding catalog.

The project series Experiments was launched in 2015 by the gallerist Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen and is intended to offer young, committed cultural workers the opportunity to expand their university education with practical training. The focus of the project is on the interdisciplinary collaboration between the artists Ruben Brückel, Helena Hafemann, Martina Lang, Philipp Neßler and the art historians Larissa Frömel, Jasmin Gnest, Nina Lermann, Jamie Mayland, Sophia Sarbinowski, Janina Schilder, Kira Schmitt, Maria Vogt and the cultural anthropologist Antonio Quint Vila.

Another aim of the project is to network young artists with art historians who are striving for a professional future in the art business and who can therefore advise and support each other in the future. An important part of this networking is the joint design and publication of a catalog, which should not only document the exhibition, but also contain scientific texts on each artistic position. The four scientific contributions are to be written in collaboration between two art historians and an artist following several working meetings. Thus, the project participants not only get exceptional insights into the coordination and communication with sponsors and press representatives, but are also involved in the curatorial design of the project.

The participants of the project not only gain valuable experience for their future professional life, but also enrich the project in a lively exchange, which enables a unique insight into the other discipline.

Die Künstler und ihre Teams

Ruben Brückel
Ruben Brückel Sophia Sarbinowski, Nina Lermann & Maria Vogt

Martina Lang
Martina Lang Jasmin Gnest & Antonio Quint Vila
