Sebastian Dannenberg Artist Talk
1 September 2022Sebastian Dannenberg · Artist talk
Curated by Dr Dorothea van der Koelen, the show Resonance features new works by the humorous artist, which he designed under the impression of the Corona times with a special focus on a resonant exhibition experience for visitors.
Starting from industrial materials – steel, aluminium, concrete – Dannenberg creates artistic creations of poetic beauty. Through the painterly ductus of his paint application, he sets a counterpoint to the minimalist forms of the readymades that form his painting ground.
Humorous allusions of forms and titles prove how Dannenberg subtly and winkingly grants space to the contemporary. At the same time, his works are immensely stimulating and allusive. They do not succumb to the temptation to give simple answers to simple questions. Rather, the attentive viewer can always develop new ideas if he or she engages with the art and relates himself or herself to the works. In preparation for the summer festival – at which the artist also answered questions from the interested art public – art historian and gallery owner Dr Dorothea van der Koelen, who discovered Dannenberg back in 2015 – spoke with him at length about the show’s exhibits, the creative process behind the works and shared role models.
