The minimalist painter Sebastian Dannenberg, who has also been Professor of Fine Arts at the Media School Hamburg since 2021, is showing his new exhibition entitled Resonance at the Cadoro – Centre for Art and Science in Mainz-Hechtsheim from Saturday 20.08.2022. Curated by Dr Dorothea van der Koelen, the show features recent works by the prolific Bremen-based artist, which he created – under the influence of the Corona Times in 2020 to 2022 – with a particular focus on a resonant exhibition experience for viewers and visitors.

Dannenberg's artistic career was shaped by two very contrasting poles of creativity: the sculptor Leni Hoffmann and the painter Stephan Baumkötter. However, the tension between these two positions does not tear the artist apart – on the contrary, he manages to synthesise them! His artistic understanding coupled with his humour bring the best of both worlds – painting and sculpture – together in his works.

On the basis of industrial materials such as steel, aluminium and concrete, Dannenberg creates artistic creations of poetic beauty. Through the painterly ductus of his paint application, he sets an individual counterpoint to the minimalist forms of the prefabricated metal parts and concrete objects that form his painting ground. Subtle allusions of forms and titles prove how the influences of our time also echo subliminally in Dannenberg's creations. At the same time, his works are intellectually stimulating, associative. They do not succumb to the temptation to impose striking messages, opinions and answers. Rather, the attentive viewer can always develop new ideas if he engages with the art and relates himself to the works.
