Einladung zur Ausstellung im Gutenberg Museum

On July 2nd, 2021 – the day of her 85th birthday – the large show Lore BertWays of Worldmaking will open in the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz. The title is the artist's homage to the American philosopher Nelson Goodman, whose intellectual oeuvre accompanied her on her travels around the world and being an inspiration for her.

The exhibition is under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Rhineland-Palatinate, Malu Dreyer. The opening ceremony will also be accompanied by an honor from the mayor of the state capital Mainz, Michael Ebling. The laudation for the jubilee is given by none other than the writer Hanns-Josef Ortheil.

The focus of the exhibition is Lore Bert's installation The Five Platonic Solids. It consists of three mirrored sculptures in the form of regular polyhedra. The platonic solids represent the five elements – a topic that Lore Bert has been dealing with since 1988. The complete environment was shown for the first time as an accompanying event to the 2013 Venice Art Biennalein the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana in Museum Correr on St. Marks Place. Almost ten years later, Lore Bert would like to present a new version of this work at another important place for book culture: the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz. For this occasion the artist has chosen the octahedron (air), the hexahedron (earth) and the dodecahedron (universe).

In addition, six large-format relief-objects adorn the exhibition room of the Gutenberg Museum. Shown are the works Golden Squares, Kant: Of Transcendental Appearance, Seven Stars in Yellow, Fan (each 180 x 180 cm) as well as the smaller works Colored Circle with Gold Crown (165 x 165 cm), Gold (Chinese) (91 x 64 cm) and 12 small-format works with Chinese characters.

in der Cadoro

Einladung zur Ausstellung in der Cadoro – Zentrum für Kunst und Wissenschaft

On July 3rd, 2021 – just one day after her 85th birthday – the large exhibition Traces of Memory - Signs of the Present in the Cadoro – Center for Art and Science in Mainz-Hechtsheim will open in the presence of Lore Bert.

The multifaceted oeuvre of the Mainz artist is presented on three floors, arranged according to creative phases. Since the 1980s, her extensive international exhibition activities have taken Lore Bert to every continent. Unlike other artists, however, she has left her artistic traces and drew new inspiration not only in the dazzling metropolises – such as London, Paris and New York – but also off the beaten track – in Kathmandu, Reykjavik or St. Louis.

The individual floors, which house the works from the 1980s, 1990s and more recent works respectively, clearly trace the artistic development of the paper artist. From the first works for which the artist applied paper to classic canvases to the well-known paper objects that dare to take the leap into the third dimension and make paper the main material of Lore Bert's oeuvre, many of the well-known and popular groups of works by the versatile Mainz native can be seen.

The epoch-making publication Lore Bert · Walking through a Life (see recommended reading below), which was published this year by Chorus Publisher, fits very well as accompanying reading and uses texts by the artist herself to illuminate the stages of her artistic development. On the occasion of her birthday, Lore Bert created four new special editions to be offered together with this autobiographical work, which are available to members of the gallery's circle of friends at a special price.
