Daniel Buren Daniel Buren – Wooden Panels
3. February 2022Daniel Buren – Wooden Panels
Daniel Buren, the French master of Minimal Art, chose the sequence of colored and white stripes with a width of 8.7 cm as his basic design element. His work owes its great international reputation to the fact that it explores the framework conditions of art. Each new work is a further answer to the question of how color and space interact in the architectural context and how they affect the viewer.
In the current film, Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen reviews her artistic collaboration with Daniel Buren, whom she has known since 1986. As a young gallerist, she met the already established artist at the Venice Art Biennale, when he was performing in the French pavilion.
Over the years, the artist and the gallerist have realized numerous joint projects, of which Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen knows how to report eloquently, entertainingly and enthusiastically. The reminiscences of great curators and legendary exhibitions are a treat for art connoisseurs and those who want to become one.
A selection of particularly impressive works by the French Master of Minimal Art can currently be seen in the Cadoro – Center for Art and Science in Mainz. In the double exhibition Form and Color in Dialogue, which has been on view since the beginning of January, Gallery Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen presents Buren’s works together with works by Raimund Girke.
