Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen · Kunst 2050

A project of the working group Art 2050 of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz for the exhibition ZERO : ARTLAB in Aschaffenburg deals with the question of how art will develop in the future under the influence of current events and the contemporary historical context.

Climate change, wars and global political and social tensions, population growth, refugee flows on the one hand and digital developments such as artificial intelligence on the other, shape our present. These aspects will also inevitably influence art. Will it allow itself to be swept along by these negative currents or will there be a countermovement?

What will art be in 2050? Where will art go by then?

Are there any indications one way or the other in the next nearly 30 years? Protest and revolt or standstill and even retreat into isolation or AI? At the request of the working group, the gallerist and art historian Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen has commented on the question in a video contribution and sketched out a vision of how art might develop in the next 30 years.
